President Andrzej Duda will meet with Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, in early August to address recent controversy surrounding the swearing-in of President-elect Karol Nawrocki. The meeting was called by President Duda in response to Hołownia’s public claims that he was pressured to delay the inauguration—remarks he described as an “attempted coup.”
During a televised interview, Hołownia stated he had been urged by unnamed individuals to postpone Nawrocki’s swearing-in following the presidential election. He suggested that these attempts, if acted upon, would have undermined the democratic process. The comments drew widespread public and political reaction.
In a subsequent clarification, Hołownia explained that his use of the term “coup d’état” was a political expression rather than a legal accusation, urging the public not to interpret his remarks as evidence of conspiracy.
The Head of the Presidential Chancellery, Małgorzata Paprocka, confirmed that Hołownia assured the president’s office he would not obstruct the inauguration. A decree convening the National Assembly has been officially published, and the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for August 6, 2025, in the Sejm’s plenary hall.
