Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has described the country’s first nuclear power plant as a symbol of progress and transformation, marking two years since his coalition government took office. Visiting the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site on Poland’s Baltic coast, Tusk said the long-delayed nuclear initiative represents a decisive break from decades of “talk without action.”
“For years, we’ve discussed nuclear energy, but now we’re finally doing it,” Tusk said. The project, to be built by state-owned companies in partnership with U.S. firms Bechtel and Westinghouse, is expected to supply electricity to 12 million households and create 50,000 jobs at its construction peak.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the nuclear investment is central to Poland’s energy security and green transition, showcasing his government’s commitment to modernization and practical reform. He added that this development “reflects the real change” his administration promised following the 2023 election.
While the government faces political challenges and criticism from the opposition, Tusk reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on delivering results rather than rhetoric, positioning nuclear power as a cornerstone of Poland’s future energy independence.
