India is positioning itself as a more active participant in the ongoing efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. As the war continues, New Delhi is intensifying its diplomatic engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, aiming to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy between the two nations.
Jaishankar emphasized India’s belief that the conflict can be resolved through peaceful negotiations and noted that the country has progressed from merely advocating for talks to actively engaging in discussions with both sides. This includes exploring initiatives related to the safety of shipping in the Black Sea, as well as addressing issues concerning grain and energy exports and potential measures to prevent further attacks.
India’s diplomatic efforts include direct discussions held by Jaishankar with Ukraine, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintains a strong relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders recently met in New Delhi in September, underscoring India’s strategic balancing act in its relations with both countries.
These developments come amid ongoing efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv is reportedly considering the possibility of another round of talks, as both nations seek a resolution to the conflict that has significantly impacted global geopolitics and economies.
