Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the approval of long-range defense operations for October, alongside plans to bolster Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities with additional F-16 fighter jets by the end of the year. As Ukraine continues to fortify its defenses in anticipation of winter, the country is engaged in negotiations for aviation support packages with several partner nations.
Among these partnerships, Belgium has committed to supplying Ukraine with three F-16 fighter jets by the end of 2026. Additionally, Ukraine has received urgent deliveries of F-16 ammunition from both Belgium and Spain. These efforts underscore Ukraine’s commitment to enhancing its military capabilities in response to ongoing threats.
In a bid to counter Russian aerial threats, Ukraine is also working on new defense mechanisms against Russia’s jet-powered Shahed drones. Zelensky indicated that the country has identified initial prototypes for interceptors and is focused on setting production targets, securing funding, and establishing delivery timelines for these defensive systems.
