Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring the Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, emphasizing their significance in maintaining frontline logistics and bolstering defenses against Russian drone attacks. In his recent video address, Zelensky also renewed his call for the delivery of crucial air defence missiles, particularly ammunition for the Patriot systems, highlighting their necessity in protecting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from Russian ballistic missile threats.
Zelensky stressed that despite previous political commitments, Ukraine is still waiting on promised military shipments from the United States and European partners. The urgency of these deliveries has been underscored by ongoing threats, as the Ukrainian president pointed out the need for immediate support in the current conflict.
Additionally, Zelensky outlined a proposed humanitarian operation in Oleshky, a town within the Russian-controlled Kherson region, which aims to provide essential food and medical supplies to civilians and facilitate safe passage for those wishing to leave the conflict zone. This initiative, contingent on a locally mediated ceasefire by the United States, involves establishing a safe corridor through mine-clearing efforts. Zelensky conveyed Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate and expressed hope for successful US mediation to make this humanitarian mission possible, despite the challenging conditions due to mined roads in the area.
In his address, Zelensky acknowledged the efforts of US lawmakers, officials, media representatives, and the administration in restoring the satellite internet services, underscoring the collaborative effort required to address the pressing challenges Ukraine faces in its defense against the ongoing Russian aggression.
